In India  there are several styles of turbans, specific to the wearer's region or religion, and they vary in shape, size and colour. Colours are often chosen to suit the occasion or circumstance: for example saffron, associated with valour, is worn during rallies; white, associated with peace, is worn by elders; and pink, associated with spring, is worn during that season or for marriage ceremonies.

I found my turbaned friends in Jodpur, the blue city in Rajastan.  The land of Rajastanis is the largest state in India by area and extremely colourful. We once thought of turning our Tuesdays into Turban Tuesdays but found Grethe wasn’t too thrilled at wearing one all day in the shop!

So after years of dreams tumbling between us ( one being a very long winded cycle trip down Africa!) Cecil and I eventually arrived at one of our biggest dreams yet, to open our own company and do what we love. Source beautiful products from different corners of the world and bring them home to share with others! We combined our two most favourite passions , travel ( Cecil) and shopping ( uh that would definitely be me!) and opened our beautiful store, Mr and Mrs on Kloof street, Cape Town. Here are some of my favourite pics of our store and our products.

Our silk and cotton pom-pom scarves are so beautiful to touch and to look at. All the colours are so gentle and compliment any outfit.

Our drool worthy rings!

Apart from all our findings from far away lands we stock many a South African designer. From fashion designers like I Love Leroy, August 1983 , Take Care , Christopher Strong and Margot Molyneux and jewellery designers such as Oh Dear Megan,  Queen Magpie  and Lalloo. It is so exciting unpacking new stock and even harder to sell some of the pretty things I love the most.  Just take a look at these lallooliscious earings below, isn't this girl amazing!

More Lalloo ( huge love for these!)

Our store is consistently changing due to the frequent sales of our antique teak furniture we brought in from India. We were in the warehouse for less than an hour and filled a container with cabinets, benches dressers and cupboards of all shapes and sizes. And to think we only went there with the intention to buy fabric!

So anyway apart from sharing a few of these special things with you, we will constantly be updating our blog with all the new treasures we find. From books to music, clothing to accessories, illustrators to illuminations and all and all and all. We will have weekly posts from Grethe on her kitchen confidentiality and how to build  and fix stuff from Cecil.
There will be new posts with all our new arrivals and constant updates on whats happening in store! As our focus shifts to our on-line store take note of our weekly specials  there too. We are so excited to be blogging, especially when its all about the exciting stuff going on here and in the creative world around us!
